From Wholesale Power Provider to Economic Development Partner
American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP) was founded in 1971 when a group of municipally owned electric systems decided to take control of their own energy future. By pooling resources, they strengthened their wholesale market buying power, gained access to transmission and enhanced advocacy efforts. Through their collective voice — joint action — they were able to accomplish what they couldn’t as individual communities.
More than 50 years later, AMP serves 130+ Member communities across nine states. The mission remains the same: to provide reliable, cost-effective public power and services such as economic development assistance to support the communities that AMP serves. For site selectors, that mission translates directly into a location advantage.
